About the Company Republic Airways is one of the largest regional airlines in the United States, operating modern Embraer E170/E175 aircraft on behalf of Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines from bases across the country. Role Overview Full-time position within the Maintenance team. The Sheet Metal Technician fabricates, installs and repairs sheet metal equipment and fixtures with minimum waste and in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. Key Responsibilities Perform sheet metal maintenance, repair, modifications and other maintenance of aircraft, components and related equipment in compliance with 14 CFR, manufacturer specifications, the General Maintenance Manual (GMM), company policy and other methods accepted by the FAA and OSHA. Plan, fabricate, assemble, install and repair sheet metal parts, equipment and products, applying knowledge of the working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials, machining and layout techniques. Lay out patterns, shape and fabricate sheet metal. Install a variety of fasteners in the repair and maintenance of aircraft. Safely operate equipment such as sheet metal forming machines, brakes, shears, cutters and crimpers; verify that all calibrated tooling is in calibration before use and that materials and parts are serviceable and of the correct effectivity for the aircraft. Perform duties in all areas inside and outside the hangar as well as at the airport terminal. Verify that each part or component is effective for the aircraft on which it will be installed. Follow the material handling and control procedures set out in the GMM and by equipment manufacturers, and initiate material requests as needed. Assess the area and equipment to be used so that safety is not compromised before any maintenance action; apply safety first at all times. Maintain a clean, safe working environment throughout the shift. Update the Supervisor on work progress; review paperwork at the end of shift to ensure all work is signed for before leaving the facility, and assist with shift turnover reports per the GMM. Complete all internal company forms, maintenance records, documents and work orders, including maintenance computer system transactions (MEL, DMI). Provide coaching and on-the-job training as directed. Adhere to the established work schedule and take part in shift meetings and briefings. Submit in writing any suggested changes to operational procedures that would improve safety and cost-effective aircraft maintenance. Access the company intranet to use the GMM and aircraft manuals, and ensure part effectivity is correct for each aircraft. Complete recurrent training, including required FAA AMT training, and keep licences and certifications current. Read and acknowledge maintenance newsletters and company emails promptly. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Able to read blueprints and use the tools of the trade. No previous felony convictions and a stable employment history. Valid driver's licence and a clean driving record. Must own the required tools. Able to work both in a team and individually. Able to pass the FAA-required 10-year work history review and criminal background and fingerprint checks. Willing to submit to and pass FAA and company mandated random drug and alcohol tests. Language, reasoning and decision making Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence, and to speak effectively and be understood in front of groups of company associates. Able to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral or diagram instructions and to deal with problems involving several variables in standardised situations. Makes limited decisions and determines the best methods to solve problems by referring to established precedents and policies; the impact of decisions is moderately low. Licences & Qualifications FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licence. Technical certification or experience as a sheet metal technician. Experience Preferred: previous experience as an A&P sheet metal mechanic or airline experience. Preferred: experience using a computer to look up information and enter data. What We Offer Full-time permanent role in the Maintenance team. Recurrent training, including required FAA AMT training. Additional Information Physical demands: standing, walking, using hands and reaching at least 90% of the time; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling up to 60% of the time; lifting up to 50 pounds at least 35% of the time and lifting or moving 75 pounds over 70% of the time. Vision sufficient to perform the work and to see approaching vehicles, aircraft and machinery is required. Work environment: work near moving mechanical parts and with fumes or airborne particles over 90% of the time; work in high, precarious places up to 50% of the time; work around toxic or caustic chemicals up to 30% of the time; risk of electric shock and work with explosives up to 10% of the time; outdoor weather conditions inside and outside an open-air hangar and at the airport terminal up to 100% of the time. The environment can be very loud. Must be able to wear a respirator and protective equipment, which requires minimal facial hair to ensure proper respirator fit under OSHA regulations. Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays to support 24-hour operations. Travel: up to 20% of the time, including overnight stays.
